Here is a look back at our 3rd season of IFA's. Compared to the first 2 seasons this was a bust. With no Hall of Famers , This has to be one of the worst. Sorry it took so long to continue the Look Back series. But my time was short and work was long. Hope you enjoy this post. If you have a season 3 IFA to note . Site mail me and i will add it to the list. MAD
Alberto "Oh Boy" Ramirez was the top Signing bonus IFA in season 3. He signed for 17.6 million by the Kansas City Amnesiacs(Now the Burlington Coat Factory. Oh Boy Alberto is currently on the Boston Red Sox team and is on the 60 Day DL. He has been a solid pitcher with 96 wins and 46 losses. Boasting a very respectable 3.50 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. He hasn't really recieved many accolades but has played in 2 M L all-star games.
The Buffalo Fightin Bison signed Joseph Hyun for 16.5 million. He has turned into a Solid Closer in the Bigs. While he hasn't Wowed the league . He hasn't embarrassed his teams either. With a career of 155 saves in 196 chances he could end up with a 200+ save career. Not bad!! He does have a World Series Ring but no other Awards.
The Las Vegas Westward Ho's Signed Yorvit "The Cat" Delgado for 16 million and a S/T invite. The Cat is a world class Closer who was mismanaged for 5 seasons as a setup guy. If he was a closer all along he would be in the top 5 in saves . Right now he is 5th in save percentage (.880). I believe he will have several good seasons in Scottsdale. In fact he just recieved a Player of the week award. A very Nice IFA!!
Ignacio Herrera was signed by the Salem Ectoplasms for 10 million. He was a bust!! He has had a lackluster career with 4 teams and his days in Tucson were his best. With a career record of 74 wins and 60 loses you could say he just had a lousy bullpen backing him up. But his career ERA 5.01 is high in any league.
The Charleston Tabaky Farmers threw 8.2 million at this Korean Dud. Then they threw up after he was released in season 9. He is retired now and singing soul music in Seoul. At least he got something out of his time in South Carolina. The Tabaky Farmers didn't!!
The Tabaky Farmers signed Ivan "the Average" Cortez for 6.8 million. He has had a great career in the minors. Pitching a total of 1,073 innings in 10 years with a WHIP of 1.29. But now he is playing with Memphis and is in his second season starting for the Blues. So far he's 13-14 with a ERA of 3.62 and a WHIP of 1.38.There should be an award for perceiverance .Ivan the average would win it!!
The San Diego 49'ers signed Julio "The Love" Fernandez for 6 million. You ask why The Love Fern?? My girlfriend forced me to see the Movie "How to lose a Guy in 10 days". Needless to say theres no love for Julio in Austin. He has been demoted and is on the Trade Block. He is a career .283 hitter with 336 stolen bases. Perhaps The Love Fernandez will be traded along with his 4.2 million contract??
The Hartford Crushers signed Rolando Jose for 5.6 million. He spent his entire career with the Crushers until he was released last year. With a record of 82-53 he has been a solid pickup in the IFA. He also has a World series ring and a all-star appearance. Not bad for 5.6 million!!
The Las Vegas Westward Hos spent 5.2 million on this Dud. He has only played in 175 M L games and is currently in AA ball. A Bust you say!! This was a weak IFA year and at least the Wesward Hos got Yorvit.
It was Slim Pickens this season. And Francisco Saenz was another career minor league IFA. He was signed by the Boston Machine for 5 million and has played in 19 games. Thats a little under 265,000 a game.
The Boston Machine also signed this minor league Catcher for 5 million.Last year he suffered from forearm irritation and was placed on the 60 DL. Its safe to say he will never reach the bigs!!To bad ...he deserved a shot. Come-on Moose have a heart and give him a start!! Hey....... that rhymes.
Yoo-Nah "never" Nomo may be the best named player I've seen.Yoo ask .....Was he a good IFA?? Nah!!! No!!!! He played in only 52 games with a ERA of 6.31 and a WHIP of 1.98. With a Control of 30 he should have NEVER been signed for 5 million.
