As promised, here is a list of several players who for various reasons, made great contributions to their teams. They are not neccisarily in order of greatness or number picked. But all have some worthy Attributes.
POSITION PLAYERS
With 629 stolen bases and counting ,Vic "Sick" Chavez is currently 3rd in Wriglleyville. With a career .287 batting average, Vic has been one of the best leadoff hitters to date.He has also picked up a Ring and several awards along the way. Zmoty drafted this Thief at #2 overall and he didn't disappoint all the fans who payed to see him play.
Probably one of the best power hitter in Wrigleyville. J.T. "Double" Nichols is currently 2nd in career homers with 696. Up until several years ago he was a career .300 hitter but has fallen down to .292. Oh and lest I forget. Double Nichols has a Ring ,HRD championship, 4 Siver Slugger Trophys and 6 All-Star appearances. The Man from Forsyth Montana was drafted #6 overall by Sandberg. Nice job!!
Normally I would pass over a LF'er/1st baseman with a .288 batting average and only 380 home runs. But this #23 pick made up for it with his glove, playing in 10,211 innings and only commited 30 Errors!! This is why Doug "Out" Tewsbury won 3 World Series with the Moonbats. It's a crime this cat only won 1 GG award. After retiring, Doug Out has been digging a fallout/survival shelter in his back yard. They are Coming!!
Here is a great defensive Catcher and a nice pickup at #70. He can't hit a lick but has been solid behind the plate with 267 base stealers caught out of 821 attempts. While thats not Eye-popping numbers you can't deny his 4 World Series Rings. How many Big League Catchers are there with 4 Rings?? This is the reason I included him in this list.
PITCHERS
With 447 saves and counting Hub "hubba hubba" Taguchi is one of the best closers in the game. His lifetime 3.65 ERA is hall of fame worthy and was a steal at #17.With an overall 69 rating, offhand he looked average at best but when you look more closely at his splits and control. It was easy to see why he's one of the best. Also he has never been on the DL so his durability is something to be commended. Hubba Hubba has 3 Rings and 3 All-Star appearances but no FOY's. Curious???
Vinny "Barbarino" Goldman is a relief guy who has an occasional stint as a closer. While he only has 120 wins and 154 saves, if you look closer you will see the big picture. This guys lifetime 3.52 ERA and 1.20 WHIP is spectacular for a guy who averages 143 innings a season in the pen. If you have a guy like Vinny in your Bullpen, you are fortunate. He can throw in 90-100 games a year and this allows you to shorten your pitching roster and add another position player. Thats Nice! With 2 Rings and a FOY trophy he was a steal at #20.
If you like Vinny you're gonna like Ken "Doll" Andrews. Ken Doll has a lifetime 2.67 ERA and 1.07 ERA with an average of 118 inngs per season out of the pen. It's nice to have a long relief guy you can put in every other game and know he will keep your lead or give your guys a chance to come back. And his teams did come back, 101 times with 197 saves. With 4 Rings and 3 All-Star appearances he was a great find at #22 in the draft.
B.C "Caveman" Olivares completes the Trilogy of bullpen gems. His lifetime 4.32 ERA and 1.34 WHIP is of note at pick #39. He was used as a closer more than Vinny and Ken with 258 saves and 72 wins. Along the way he picked up a Ring and a FOY award with 5 All-Star appearances. It has been reported that Caveman has embarked on a new career in personal Massage therapy. After attending the prestigous Slap and Tickle School of Massage. Caveman has been hired as John Travoltas personel masseur.
BEST LATE ROUNDER
At pick #136 in the draft Glen "Be" Trujillo has a career .292 Batting average. Add 298 Homers and over 1,000 RBI's and anyone would love to have "Be Trujillo" on their team.
CRASH DAVIS PLAYER
Come on Nwsheehy!! After 18 years in the minors............Give this guy his shot!
