THE WEEK IN WRIGLEYVILLE S-23 #5

TRADES

The TAMPA BAY STARS traded Al Acosta to the SANTA FE BLUES for Mark Davis
Santa Fe advertised that Davis and a few other prospects were on the block. He was hitting .375 this season so Tampa traded a good young catcher for him. TC is still trying to will his team into the playoffs and Nelig is looking to next year. Trade makes sense for both guys.

The CHICAGO BLEACHER BUMS traded Bob Hines and 2,000,000 to the NEW BRITAIN BRUINS for Rico Mateo and Josh McKinley
The Bruins picked up a veteran Bullpen guy who was the 15th overall pick way back in season 11. While Hines hasn't won any hardware, he has been solid with a lifetime ERA of 3.80. The Bleacher Bums pick up a much younger version of Hines (Mateo) and a AAA pitcher who needs a DITR bump on his splits. Dodger is stocking up for a playoff run after Bernie Richards (below) went on the DL. And  Hshack is looking to next year. We will see many haves and have-not trades in the next few weeks. This is just the start of the trade deadline scramble.

The CHICAGO BLEACHER BUMS traded Felipe Flores and 1,000,000 to the SCOTTSDALE SCHIZOIDS for Efrain Redmond and John Ishikawa
I had been trolling for another starting pitcher and Hshack was willing to part with Flippen Flores. I had to send 2 promising defensive players to land him. Pitching ain't cheap!!

The SANTA FE BLUES traded Alfredo Herrera to the MILWAUKEE STURGEONS for Olmedo Perez and Paul Braden
Santa Fe got Herrera as a kicker in the Piedra-Pichardo trade. He was delt to Milwaukee for a couple of low-level prospects. Makes sense to get what you can for a guy you really don't need or want.

M L INJURIES

Ronald Carter
Ronald "Get" Carter will miss 2 weeks with back spasms. Rugby will want to get Carter back on the team after the Martian Moose heals. Get Some Carter!!

Bernie Richard
Bernie "Poor" Richards is a DL Darling and the Bruins took a chance with a one-year contract. Poor Richards is ready to come off the DL but the trade with the Bleacher Bums will keep him rested on the DL, till needed.

Virgil Ramirez
I called Virgil "Earp" Ramirez a bum last year. And he continues his Bumness with a 3 week stay on the DL. He dislocated a shoulder, and as soon as he locates it, he will be back on the mound for the Bleacher Bums. This is not O.K. Earp!

Chul Yoshii
Chul "A Vista" Yoshii Can see far with his 2 I's. In fact he can see his return to the Chicago Balck Sox lineups in a couple of days. One thing he can't see, is his bat on the ball with a .234 BA.

Dan Walker
My pitcher Dan "Sky" Walker is back on the DL for only the second time. He will miss 2 weeks with shoulder tendinitis. My pitching is sparse and this may be one of the reasons my team took a turn towards the Dark Side. I'm not your Father, Dan!!

Claudio Schmidt
The Moonshiners will be without the services of Claudio " Dio" Schmidt for 2 weeks. He must have injured his shoulder while "Whipping it Good". What "it" means, is still a mystery.

Al Vincente
Al "Walk" Vincente once walked 100 guys in a season. Now he will be walking to the DL for 2 weeks. He should return to his walking ways after his man-boob heals.

Bill Skinner
Bill "Mule" Skinner has carried the load for the Salmonbellies bull pen last year. Now he may miss the rest of the year with the dreaded "Elbow Surgery". Salems train is still on the right track and leading the A L in wins.

Chris Montgomery
Chris "Krispy" Montgomery is back on the D L for 2 weeks with shoulder tendinitis. I wrote this about Krispy back in season 20 ......."No suprise here! Chris "Crispy" Montgomery will be a DL Darling. The Black Sox promoted him from AAA, and after 18 innings, he Crumbled. He will miss 3 months with Elbow Surgery."..............The Black Sox's season is slowly crumbling!
