The Week in WRIGLEYVILLE S-10 #1

TRADES
The KANSAS CITY SPITOONS Traded Luis Lopez to the TACOMA TOYOTAS for Karim Franco
Tacoma gets a Very good Defensive SS who can't hit. And KC picks up a Pitching Prospect that may be a solid Major Leaguer

The SAN DIEGO SALMONBELLIES Traded Daisuke Sano to the PORTLAND PANDEMONIUM for Yorvit Moreno
Portland gets an Outfielder only because he throws Lefty. He has been playing CF but should be in RF or LF because of low Range and Glove. He can hit though. San Diego picks up a solid mid-relief  pitcher who can eat a ton of Innings.

M L INJURIES
 Jay Glanville
This Crusher player is already back to work after  suffering a Broken Wrist. Yeah Right , A broken wrist usually would put a player out for the season. Perhaps they have Star Trek Medicine ??

David Terry
This Supersonic player is back shagging flies in LF. He had a strained rib cage.

Pete Torres
The Stars traded for this Chump from the Chimps. And hes out 2 months with a bulging disk.

Todd Tanner
The Toyotas resigned this player to a new contract and he repays them by going on the 15 -day with a sore shoulder. Probably from lifting that heavy wallet.

J.T. Ramsey
This Portland bench player is ready to return after suffering a Strained Pec.

Sam Winston
Talk about ungrateful!! Boston signed this F/A catcher for a 4 year 28.4 mil contract. Now he's taking a Smoke break with a Stiff Oblique.

Iago Christensen
This Salmonbelly strained his belly, and is ready to come off the DL.

Vic Benitez
Ouch This ones gonna leave a mark!! This Star outfielder resigned with the Tampa Bay Champs for 5 years 54 million and a 5 mil signing bonus. Then he goes out for 3 -4 months with a herniated disk in the neck. I can see the viens throbbing in JMAS's neck !!!

Heinie Ramsey
This Supersonic will be out a week with back spasms

Polin Pineiro
This fine looking Moose player is in his second year and the sophmore jinx is in. He broke a finger but should be back in two weeks. Whats with WIS ,Broken bones are no big deal???

A L NORTH PREVIEW

GONE: Julio Gandarilla Free Agency , Bobby Parrott Free Agency , Benito Vincente Released , Javier Ortiz Released , Vernon Acquilino Released , Galahad Levis Released , Luis Rios Traded to FAR , Santiago Torres Traded to FAR

ADDED: Mel Tessmer Resigned , Fred O'Shea Free Agent , Dude Cosby Free Agent , Duffy Peterman Promoted , Julian Stern Promoted , Ron Blair R-5 , Sid Walsh From FAR

Summary: Chicago just keeps getting stronger and they finished with the best record in the A L. They took there record of 105-57 into the playoffs and lost in the DCS. Kumbia wants to take that next step and win a World Series. So He let a couple of  average players go to Free Agency and released several others. Then because Kumbia Is short of cap he spent lightly in the free agent market. Then he plugged dem holes with youngsters and an R-5 pick. He finally picked up a nice middle infielder from Fargo. As I was writing this Kumbia pulled off a big trade. So he is serious about winning it all at any cost. Look for this team to win the division and if they stay healthy they will be in the Series.

View Hardball Dynasty Profile

GONE: Mario Hunter Free Agency , Ralph Ogden Free Agency , Hideo Ueno Released , Abraham Poole Released , Fred O'Shea Released

ADDED: Victor Carrasco Free Agent , Jesus Mendoza Free Agent , Bump Peters Free Agent , Moises Cervantes Free Agent

Summary:  Shynent bought this team last season and finished second in the division with a record of 88-74. That was good enough for a wild card spot and lost in the first round. Like the Chicago Club, Shynent Looks to improve in the playoffs. First St Louis took a hit when Hunter bolted for free agency. Then he shed some fringe players and a shopping Shynent went. (Hey that Rhymes) He signed three solid pitchers and a good SS. I think with these F/A's Shy improved this club . I don't think they will overtake Chicago but they will be in the Wild card hunt. And anything can happen in the Second Season.

Portland

GONE: Tony Duncan Free Agency , Troy Downs Released , Andres Tapies Released  , Ricardo Hernandez Traded to NO

ADDED: Rudy Morton Free Agent , Don Dickson Free Agent , Gus Grossman Promoted , Norberto Ramirez From SF

Summary: The Pandemonium were Sad when they finished  third and just missed the playoffs. Pbsilver will try to cheer up his squad with a couple of strategic moves. One damper on his plans was the departure of Super Center Fielder, Tony (the Donut) Duncan. He then released a couple of players who demanded more money in Arbitration. A swift kick to the Butt !! pbsilver then shipped Hernandez and his big contract to New Orleans for some youngsters. He then took some cash and picked up a couple solid positon players in the Market. He then Promoted a future Cy-Young Canadate in Gus Grossman .And finally he picked up SS Norberto Ramirez from SF and signed him to a 5 Year 47.5 million dollar contract. pbsilver made some good moves .The question is, will his super rookie play like a ROY or a AAA pitcher? My guess is this team will improve but in this tough division they will finish 2nd or third. They will also be heard from in the Wild card Race.

GONE: Norm Torre Free Agency , Sid Walsh Traded to CH2 , Phil Dunwoody Traded to BOS , Vic Bellhorn Traded to BOS

ADDED: Wayne Shea Resigned , Harry Mercado Free Agent , Malachi Newson Free Agent , Horacio Picasso Free Agent , Bing Ferrara Promoted , Cesar James Promoted , Bobby Jefferies Promoted , Bing Ferrara Promoted , Duane Thompson From BOS , Luis Rios From CH2 , Santiago Torres From CH2

Summary: Aaronwayne took over last season for a long time owner and this team finished 4th. But the record of 73-89 is quite respectable considering the track record of this club. It looks like aaronwayne is lowering his payroll and increasing his HS and College scouting . And he will be adding more Prospects as the season continues. He did let go Strikeout King; Norm(ole!) Torre .Then he traded a good looking 2nd baseman(Walsh) who was just entering Arb years. For a Slugger and a Starting Picher.  He then moved 2 big contracts to Boston  for a Nice Closer and a couple of prospects. Aaron also spent some money in F/A and snagged two SP'ers and a Outfielder to boot. And finally he plugged the holes with Youngsters from the Farm. Look for this team to hit .500. They have improved faster than I expected. Nice job Aaron.

Summary: After winning this division for the third straight year with a record of  94-68. The Crushers want to make it to the Series. Aromano decided to stand pat and keep his existing club together. He did give a contract extension to Stuart Mench worth 42 mil over 5 years. Aromano did have to shell out 10 mil more in Arbitration. That brings his total payroll to 80 MIL. The Crushers are my pick to win this division again and hopefully the extra money will inspire this club to win it all.

GONE: Dewey Bradley Free Agency , Christopher Locke Free Agency , Malachi Christopher Free Agency , Dan Torre Free Agency , Bump Peters Free Agency , Dude Cosby Released , Rudy Davis Released , Sherry Root Released

ADDED: Tony Duncan Free Agent , Ryan Weaver Free Agent , Roy Cookson Free Agent , Nipsey Benard Promoted , Walter Fitzgerald Promoted , Herm Harris Promoted , Billy Ray Bryant Promoted , Raymond Corbin R-5 , Dennis Damon R-5 , Sandy Hiatt From ALB

Summary: This Preview was submitted by Ardthomp;  There aren't many whispers of a possible World Series championship coming from the "crossroads of America." The Indians are still building from the ground up, which means a lot of patience is needed from our season ticket holders.
Herm Harris and Nipsey Benard were brought up to the big league club this season to see if they can help spur some excitement in the early season.
Along with the two youngsters being brought up, the Indians went out and signed free agent center fielder, Tony Duncan, who is expected to bring some pop to the lineup and provide the club with some stellar defense.
The one constant on this team is a lack of pitching, which is why the Indians brought in Sandy Hiatt in a trade right before spring training.
In the end, the Indians won't have nearly enough talent to compete for a playoff spot. However, we encourage you to bring your family to Victory Field and spend your hard earned dollars watching our band of miscreants walk out ground balls and lolly gag to and from the dugout. INDIAN'S BASEBALL, IT'S LACKLUSTER!

GONE:  George White Free Agency , P.T. Armas Free Agency , Charlie Alexander Free Agency , Otis Ratliff Released , Gerald Truman Released , Duane Thompson Traded to FAR , Todd Ojeda Traded to ALB

ADDED: Eric Ryan Free Agent , Sam Winston Free Agent , Julio Mercado Free Agent , Charles Suzuki Free Agent , Howie Ryan Free Agent , Harpo Westbrook Free Agent , Charles Yamamoto Free Agent , Chad Wilson Promoted , Phil Dunwoody From SLC , Vic Bellhorn From FAR , Ernest Maxwell From JAX , Rick Scott From ALB

Summary: The Boston franchise finished in third place with a record of 72-90. New owner Jamacanheat came to town and in the tradition of  Boston baseball . Spent a shitload of money improving this team. The payroll jumped from 58 mil last season to 92 mil this year. Someone hide the checkbook!!! All kidding aside the previous owner mikesons trimmed payroll both season he owned Boson. And jamacan is reaping the benefits. With so many new faces its hard to get a handle on how good the Knights will be. But i will go out on a limb and say that ."lookout Crushers theres a new guy in town". This team has enough talent they should contend this season.

GONE: Harpo Westbrook Free Agency , Sammy Diaz Free Agency , Dion Haynes Free Agency , Napoleon Stokes Released , Jude Cunningham Released , Pat Parrish Released , Charles Suzuki Released

ADDED: Cameron Linden Free Agent , Pedro Guerrero Free Agent , Yuniesky Domingo Free Agent , Luke Harris Free Agent , Hugh Glover Free Agent , J.P. Cunningham Free Agent ,

Summary: Suprise !! One of the most dominate teams in the A L finished fourth . Thier record of 68-94 was the worst finish ever for the Howlers. The most glaring stat is they went from scoring 1040 runs in S-8 to only 690 last year. EGADS!! And it gets worse jmuhtoffs guys had a division record of 9-21. One bright spot was thier record in 1 run games 20-18. Looks like they need Starting pitchers. So with this in mind jmuhtoff went to work and sent underpreforming Pitchers Westbrook, Diaz and Haynes to the free agent market. Then released two more pitchers and threw in a couple of positon guys to get his point across. He then set to bring in fresh talent, and  he did that in free agency. He signed 4 position players to large contracts and picked up a couple of pitchers in the Bargin Bin. I don't think that Jmuhtoff brought in enough pitching talent to right this ship. But sometimes the best defense is Offense. If I had to guess. With the improvement of the Knights and the dominance of the Crushers. This team will finish 3rd or fourth ,out of the playoffs.

A L SOUTH PREVIEW

GONE: Charles Yamamoto Free Agency , Richard Jung Free Agency , Brent Ryan Free Agency , Patrick Newfield Released , Ernest Maxwell Traded to BOSTON

ADDED: P.T. Armas Free Agent , Brady Sefcik Free Agent , Daniel Seneca Free Agent , Francisco Valdes Promoted , Gabe Roberts Promoted ,

SUMMARY: Atprasad submitted hthis preview.  "The Justice spent last off-season getting younger, and actually took a step forward in the playoffs." This year, we were very aggressive on the free agent market, and brought in three players we think are major upgrades. We think PT Armas is a step up from Charles Yamamoto and he cost almost $2 million less.Brady Sefcik ended up being $1 million more than Richard Jung, but is a much better SP. And finally we added Daniel Seneca to our bullpen, one of the best middle relievers in the history of Wrigleyville and a guy with championship experience."

My Take:  This team has always won this division. And since Atprasad took over in S-8 ,he has kept up the tradition . The Justice finished with a record of 87-75 , a lower than normal win total. That may be because the rest of the division has improved. But looking at the numbers it is because they scored 100 less runs and gave up 63 more. But the most glaring stat of the advanced standings for S-9 is the fact that the Justice lost 27, 1 run games while winning only 23. Therefore I agree that the addition of Seneca will help win some close ones. Look for the Atprasad to win this division if his team wins the close games. but if they falter they will at least win a wild Card .

GONE: Pepe Hernandez Free Agency , Edgardo Castillo Free Agency/Injured , Rick Ashley Free Agency , Midre Carrasco Free Agency/Declined Option , Eric Kydd Released

ADDED: Mark Smith Free Agent , Alejandro Perez Free Agent , Rollie Bechler Promotion , Nick Byrne Promotion , Roberto Cedeno Promotion

Summary: The Posse finished second and made the playoffs as a Wild Card. Thier record of 84-78 was right where they always finish. Talk about consistancy!! But Ilicit has his eye on a Division trophy and he was busy in the offseason trying attain it. After a sub-par season Illicit declined an option on former all-star Carrasco. Then he let go the oft injured Castillo , and  jettisoned Hernandez,Ashley and Kydd. All three of the latter ,were average pitchers. Illicit then went bargain hunting in Free Agency and picked up a couple Hole Plugs. He then promoted a trio of prospects that should improve this club a tad. My guess is they will finish again in the 80ish win total. Not nearly enough for one of the biggest payroll in Wrigleyville (107 million).

GONE: Rabbit Busby Free Agency , Moises Cervantes Free Agency , Ronnie McCullough Free Agency

ADDED: Seth Rando Free Agent , Aramis Herrera Free Agent , Ivan James Free Agent , Pat Parrish Free Agent

Summary: Slowly but surely tchagnon has brought this club kicking and screaming to respectability. Last season they finished at .500 for the first time since S-1. Good job !! So after finishing 3rd ,they want to take the next step and make the playoffs. TC first let Rabbit , Moises and Ronnie enter Free agency. All three pitchers were past thier prime. Then he hit the free agent market and signed Seth Rando to a three year 60Mil contract and gave up a first round pick. No i didn't misprint it , 20 mil a year!!! He Then filled some holes with 3 solid Free agents. T.C. made a bold move by signing Seth and hope it works out . My take is Seth is a big time arm and this will improve the Blues pitching staff. The Blues can already score alot of runs so this will make them a contender for the Division. This team is my Sleeper pick. They will make the playoffs.

GONE: Julian Tavarez Free Agency , Cesar Gomez Free Agency , Alex Castilla Free Agency , Jesus Mendoza Free Agency , Tom Hutton Released

ADDED: Rafael Benitez Free Agent , Mark Liniak Free Agent , Art Matthews Free Agent , Wes Burks Promoted , Logan Brock R-5

Summary: Long time owner nwsheehy007 took a step back last season finishing fourth in an up and coming division. The Tabacky Farmers got smoked with a record of 69-75. While they have always given up thier share of runs. Scoring fell off and that contributed to the decline. So the mysterious Nwsheehy let four under achievers go to Free Agency. Then in a SUPRISING move he released Tom Hutton instead of arbing him.WOW!! It worked out for Tom Though ,He signed for a ton of Money. He then signed three Vets in free agency.  Then picked up a corner Infielder in the R-5 draft. Perhaps the exit of Hutton won't hurt them .But my guess is that the other teams have improved and will leave the Tabacky farners behind.

View Hardball Dynasty Profile

GONE: Juan Alvarado Free Agency , Seth Rando Free Agency , Dennis Langston Released , Norberto Ramirez Traded to POR , Brian Nen Traded to LV ,

ADDED: Jerome Stevenson Free Agent , Jeff Dupler Promoted , Placido Telemaco Promoted , Philip Schultz Promoted , Tommie Reynolds R-5 , Ted Jordan R-5 , Pablo Duran From LV

Summary: Another year down and another Division championship for Mark3313. The Kickapoos finished with a N L Best record of 117-45. But this team is snakebit in the playoffs lately. After winning World Series Rings in S-5 and S-6 they lost in the Series in S-7. Then in S-8 the lost in the NLCS and in S-9 they were beat in the DCS. See the pattern?? Well I think Mark did so he let some players go due to salary concerns . And picked up some Comp Picks for his troubles.LOL Then he made a trade sending All-Star 3rd Baseman Norberto to clear some cap space. Picked up Marty Allen and William Tabaka for his Trouble. SOB. Mark then Plugged the holes with a Free agent Pitcher and some KILLER Prospects. Ugh the only thing left was to bring in a couple of Catchers by the R-5 draft and a trade with LV. The San Fransisco team is like a Conveyor Belt sending good players packing and bringing up Future Studs. Mark should win this Division again but the playoffs are always a gamble.

GONE: Cameron Linden Free Agency , Vic Velazquez Free Agency , Donn Harris Free Agency , Les Guerrero Free Agency ,

ADDED: Vince Tipton Free Agent , Javier Veras Promoted , Del Bonilla Promoted ,

Summary: This preview was submitted by Smowedin; Tuscon is coming back mostly intact. However, we suffered a significant loss to Free Agency in Vic Velazquez. His production will be nearly impossible to replace.

We went hard after Vince Tipton after San Juan was forced to release him. Although he doesnt bring the power that Viz possesses, we feel he will hit much better than his .272 average in our hitter-friendly park. We look forward to his presence in our lineup.
We prompted P Javier Veras from AAA this year and although he struggled last season, we have high hopes for him. We also brought up Del Bonilla for an additional bat at the plate and glove in the outfield.
With all that said, I am sure we have not done enough to overtake SF and looks like we may be seeking the #5 seed yet again!

GONE: R.A. Bailey Free Agency , Dewey Wall Released , Brendan Bonilla Released , Yoo-Nah Nomo Released ,

ADDED: Sammy Estrada From TOL

Summary:  After making thier first playoff appearance in S-8. The 49'ers took a step back and finished third in the Division .And missed the playoffs with a record of 79-83.Whats the main reason for the 49'ers decline?? Well they went from scoring one of the leagues best 829 runs in S-8 to scoring only 656 last season. Man its hard to win when you score 173 less runs. So What to Do?? Anahiem is up to thier eyeballs in salary and they let a couple of players go to free up som cap. Then Sonneboy made a trade with Toledo to bring in Super Slugger Sammy Estrada. With the addition of Estrada the 49'ers will score more runs. But its not enough to overcome the Kickapoos for the Division. Maybe a wild card if the bats start hitting what they're swinging at. Simple HUH!!

GONE: Amp Haney Free Agency/Retired , Lyle Roosevelt Free Agency , Carlton House Free Agency , Art Matthews Free Agency , Walt Park Traded to LV , Harry James Traded to JAX

ADDED: J.R. Chase R-5 , Hugh Cole R-5 , Butch Punto From LV , Jay Barber From NO

Summary: Last season the Totems finished below .500 for the first time Ever. Madmuldoons squad had a record of 79-83 ,4th in the division. They suffer from the same fate as Anahiem , Lack of run support. One reason we can't hit whats pitched , is that we here in Vancouver have gotten old. Yep!! my guys are spending more time getting massages than working out. I also have trimmed my payroll from 122 million when i took over this club to 70 Million now. At the same time i have built up my farm system with tasty prospects and soon some will join the M L club. In the meantime I let several aging players go and plugged the holes with R-5 Players .And I  picked up some decent Catchers in trades with LV and NO. I Know this team is no where near good enough to win this division. But now with my payroll finally where i like it. It's time to reload!!

N L EAST PREVIEW

San Juan
San Juan Santurce Crabbers (NL)

View Hardball Dynasty Profile

GONE: Rudy Morton Free Agency , Vince Tipton Released ,

ADDED: None

Summary: The Crabbers finished first last season a year earlier than I predicted. With a record of 92-70 they entered the playoffs and lost in the DCS. Now that this squad has a years worth of winning under thier belt. Ralph looks to take them deeper in the playoffs. He let Morton go by way of free agency and picked up a late 1st round pick in compesation. Then he released Tipton when he demanded way to much cash in Arbitration. I don't think these losses will hurt the San Juan Team and i look for them to contend for the division Title.

GONE: Vernon Banks Free Agency , Carl Wright Free Agency , Matthew Erdos Free Agency , Don Dickson Released , Calvin Valentine Released , Paxton Leach Released , Hugh Lloyd Traded to JAX , Cecil Graham Traded to CHA

ADDED: Carson Bailey Resigned , Mo Andrelczyk Promoted , Neifi Ordaz Promoted , Khiry Allen R-5 , Kirk Davidson From JAX

Summary: After winning two Division Titles and a World Series the Moose went into last season with momentum. But at the end they barley finished above .500 (82-80) and missed the playoffs. Alot of people blamed the decline on the move from Burlington to Syracuse but I feel that the rest of the division just got a better and the moose got old. So Rugby started by releasing 3 old pitchers in Banks,Wright and Erdos to Free Agency. He then released three players that had sub-par years. Then traded some players that wanted some cash in Arbitration. Rugby resigned a set-up pitcher Promoted 2 future all-stars in Mo and Neifi.Grabbed a defensive catcher in R-5 and picked up a nice young pitcher from the Manatees. No secret here Rugby got younger and stronger . Look for this team to rebound after last season if the youngsters play like thier projections. We will know by the All-Star break.

GONE: Pep Tamura Free Agency , Sergio Bryant Free Agency , J.P. Cunningham Free Agency , Sam Winston Free Agency , Josh Greene Free Agency , Shaggy McDonald Released ,

ADDED: Luis Mercado Free Agent , David Pineda Promoted , Bobby Ogden Promoted , David Mateo Promoted ,

Summary: The Tripods used to own this Division finishing no worse than second place. But last year with the surgeing Crabbers and the always tough Moose. The Trenton squad finished third with a record of 73-89(First time under .500). One reason could be they gave up so many runs 819(Only Milwaukee gave up morein the NL). Boehnerm started the off-season by letting some restricted players go by way of Free Agency( Tamura, Greene and Winston). And picked up a bunch of comp picks in this years draft. He Then Promoted three youngsters to plug the holes and brought in an average pitcher in Free agency. The Tripods still hav 7 mil in cap space and maybe they will bring in some defensive help. I don't see them contending for the Division crown, but could go on a run and snag a Wild Card.

GONE: Nigel Hasegawa Free Agency , Cody Sherman Free Agency , Benito Gardel Released , Rich Ward Traded to JAX , Sammy Estrada Traded to LAA

ADDED: Alan Baumann Free Agent , Sherry Wells Free Agent , Andres Gomez Promoted , Sal Obermueller R-5

Summary: Bekevin bought this team last season and has vowed to bring them back to the Glory Days. They finished a predictable fourth with a record of  73-89. To continue the rebuild ,Bkevin allowed Hasegawa to enter the FA Market and picked up some comp picks . Traded a couple of players to clear cap space and now he has 40 mil in cap space.  In the meantime though bkevin plugged some holes with mid level FA's, a Rookie ,and a nice R-5 pickup in Obermueller. Look for the C Beavers to spend ,spend and spend some more in the IFA's,stocking up on them tasty prospects. But for now they will finish below .500 and in a few years regain the Glory!!
